Ja Morant’s knee soreness is something that should be concerning for the Memphis Grizzlies. Especially as the playoffs draw near.

The last thing the Memphis Grizzlies needed was to sit Ja Morant over the last few weeks ahead of the NBA playoffs. However, that’s exactly what the Grizzlies will be doing as Morant is experiencing knee soreness.

Especially considering Stephen Curry’s injury, the Grizzlies have a pretty strong hold on the second seed in the Western Conference standings.

According to Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins, the plan is to shut Morant down for a couple of weeks and hope he is ready to go for the playoffs. With little wiggle room between now and the postseason, time is certainly not on the Grizzlies’ side.

It’s not surprising that the Grizzlies are being cautious when it comes to Morant. The Grizzlies are sitting in a good place heading into the postseason and the only way that they’re going to make a deep playoff run is with a fully healthy Morant.

Even though the Grizzlies don’t have much time, now is the perfect opportunity to sit Morant and allow him to get healthy.

That said, it’s something to keep an eye on. This isn’t ideal but it appears Morant will be back for the postseason run. Another ounce of good news is that the Grizzlies have performed fairly well this season without Morant.

Memphis is 15-2 this season in Morant’s absence. That’s probably not sustainable but it should at the very least help the Grizzlies remain afloat in the West over the next couple of weeks.

The Grizzlies are going to be one of the most intriguing teams heading into the postseason, but there’s no question that this situation with Morant is worth monitoring. It could have a huge impact on the West playoff picture. And could add some added level of intrigue into the postseason.
