NBA Rumors: Sixers’ Doc Rivers has been linked to Lakers, Jazz
NBA Rumors: Doc Rivers has been linked as a possible replacement as head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz.
The NBA Playoffs are roughly a week and a half away and there is plenty of intrigue heading into the final couple of weeks of the season. However, the potential of what could happen this offseason is already beginning to make headlines.
And one of the biggest revolves around veteran head coach Doc Rivers.
Rivers is hoping he can help lead the new-look Philadelpiha 76ers to a deep playoff run, but if it doesn’t end as they’d like it wouldn’t be surprising to see him take the fall during the offseason. If that ends up happening, it doesn’t sound like Rivers will be out of work for long.
According to a Bleacher Report article, the expectation is that the Los Angeles Lakers are going to part ways with head coach Frank Vogel during the offseason. And one potential replacement could be Doc Rivers. According to that same report, he’s also been linked to the Utah Jazz in the event that their head coach, who has been linked to the San Antonio Spurs as a possible Gregg Popovich replacement (retirement), elects to leave.
"[via Bleacher Report]Doc Rivers, the Philadelphia 76ers’ head coach, is another active bench leader being mentioned by league personnel as a potential Lakers candidate.Rivers has also been linked by several league sources as a potential replacement for the Jazz, in the event Snyder does depart Utah."
Rivers has had his fair share of success during his tenure as a head coach in the NBA but at the same time has been somewhat of a disappointment in his last two stops – with the LA Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers.
Heading into this year’s postseason, there will be no excuses for Rivers and the Sixers. After adding James Harden at the trade deadline, the Sixers are primed to make a deep run. And if they can’t with this roster, it’s hard to see Rivers surviving the season.
While most offseasons, many anticipate the player carousel that will take place. This offseason, though, there could be an interesting coaching one.
