NBA Rumors: The Los Angeles Lakers could target Nick Nurse as a head-coaching candidate this offseason.

The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off a disappointing season. But with LeBron James and Anthony Davis locked in heading toward next season, this front office is going to do everything in their power to significantly improve their chances of contending next season.

And one way that the team is widely expected to do so is via a new head coach.

Even though Frank Vogel helped the Lakers win a championship a couple of seasons ago, he will likely become one of the scapegoats that will take the fall for the team this offseason. And, according to a recent report, one potential target for the Lakers is current Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse.

"[via Heavy.com]Perhaps the Lakers could rely on the Klutch connection to land Nurse, who is one of the best coaches in the NBA. One Eastern Conference executive told Heavy.com’s Sean Deveny that the team could try to see if it’s possible."

Of course, this seems more like a pipe dream. However, if Nurse is looking to check a box off his NBA bucket list, perhaps coaching the Lakers could be a draw. It doesn’t help that LeBron James is still under contract and Anthony Davis is as well.

The big question is whether that draw would outweigh the potential risk of all that could possibly go wrong with the Lakers next season, especially if they don’t significantly upgrade the roster during the season.

It would be highly surprising if that didn’t happen, even if it would be extremely costly. At the same rate, it would also be extremely unlikely for Nurse to leave the Raptors. Especially considering the success that the team has had this season. Still, the Lakers can dream.
