The cons for the Utah Jazz trading Donovan Mitchell

On the other hand, the cons of trading Donovan Mitchell could be bad for the Utah Jazz. For one, it could force the team to make some drastic changes to the rest of their roster. Trading Mitchell would likely blow up this team’s current build and would leave the front office with plenty of other work to be done this offseason.

Short of the Jazz getting another veteran or win-now star in return for Mitchell, which seems unlikely, there are going to be plenty of other players that the team would likely have to trade as well. For instance, Bojan Bogdanovic, Jordan Clarkson, Mike Conley, and Royce O’Neale are all under contract next season (and a few of them for a couple of seasons).

Neither of them would likely fit as foundational pieces (in the next build) and would likely be better off on another team. Plus, those four players are eating up close to $65 million of the cap next season.

If the Jazz does elect to trade Mitchell, it will likely be the start of an entire firesale of the rest of the roster as well. Oh, and we didn’t even touch on Rudy Gobert, who may want out himself if it came to that this offseason.
