Completely revamp the supporting cast, taking a chance on young prospects

I understand the LeBron James way of building a roster. He wants vets that are on the backend of their careers that are looking for one more shot at a championship. That has almost never worked throughout the course of his career. Cut it out, LeBron.

Instead, the Lakers need to completely revamp their supporting cast. The good news is that the Lakes only really have six players under contract (with Russ, THT, and Nunn being three of them) heading into the offseason. That means they’ll have the chance at a redo to the supporting cast.

LA needs to find defensive-minded wings on the cheap, shooters on the cheap, and perhaps a big or two, also on the cheap. In building out the rest of the roster, the Lakers should also invest a couple of roster spots in young prospects – something that the Miami Heat have done so well over the last few years. Its paid dividends for them and perhaps it’s something that could work for the Lakers too.

The Lakers aren’t completely dead in the water heading into the offseason, but they can’t afford to make many more mistakes. Especially if they want to extend, not close, LeBron’s championship window.
