Chicago Bulls: 4 offseason goals to prioritize this summer
Chicago Bulls goal No. 1: Re-signing Zach LaVine
This offseason, the team’s first priority is to sign Zach LaVine to a max extension. Bulls supporters went from loving LaVine to questioning his play and desire to stay put this offseason. For the past few years, LaVine has become the face of the franchise, turning into one of the best scorers in the NBA and providing hope that Bulls fans have been starving for.
LaVine was named to the NBA All-Star team for the first time in 2020-2021 and was selected again this season. Last year, LaVine had a career-best 27 points per game and appeared to be the Bulls’ long-term focus. Throughout the summer, the acquisitions of DeMar DeRozan, Lonzo Ball, and Alex Caruso had Bulls fans on the edge of their seats with excitement and hope.
With the addition of DeRozan, LaVine’s point per game statistics decreased. At the All-Star break, the Bulls were tied for first place along with the Heat.
LaVine injured his knee after the break, but it was determined not to be significant following tests. Thus, he returned and continued to play. The rest of the season was never the same for LaVine. His bounce had departed, along with his explosiveness and rim-attacking aggression. LaVine’s injury was more severe than most people imagined, and he now will undergo knee surgery.
The Bulls must do everything possible to sign LaVine to a maximum contract. LaVine can score 30 points per game when healthy, and he has been a vital piece to the organization. Bulls fans would be devastated if they dealt their star this offseason. If the Bulls do not sign LaVine, they will be severely disappointed and let down with the final result.
