Chicago Bulls: 4 offseason goals to prioritize this summer
Chicago Bulls Goal No. 3: Develop Patrick Williams
As the fourth overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Patrick Williams has had a challenging first two seasons with the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls inserted Williams into the starting lineup after coming off the bench at Florida State in college. Because of his passive nature and lack of experience, Williams lacked confidence in his play, but it’s clear he has something special that has to be unleashed.
Williams had a solid rookie campaign with signs of promise, but his talent shone brighter in the summer league after. Williams returned for the 2021-22 season when he appeared in a few games before injuring his wrist and missing the majority of the season. After returning for a few weeks, he shined brightly in the playoffs, and we got to see just how special he can become. Williams was one of the Bulls’ better players in the playoffs and should be a cornerstone for the franchise for years to come.
With his excellent defensive ability and a frightening attacking style when he’s aggressive, Williams is a rare player that doesn’t come around often. Williams made 52 percent of his field goals and 51 percent of his 3-point attempts. DeMar DeRozan has high expectations for Williams. DeMar DeRozan will have him down in LA to learn his work ethic. If Williams can unlock his potential, he could become a player like Kawhi Leonard. Only time will tell.
"[via NBC] “Pat’s my main victim,” he said with a smile. “I’m looking forward to having him (Williams) spend some time with me in LA, having him get up at 4 o’ clock in the morning, kind of breaking him down. And whoever else want in on the team.”"
