NBA Trade Rumors: The Brooklyn Nets may be open to a Kyrie Irving sign-and-trade this offseason.
There will be plenty of eyes on the Brooklyn Nets this offseason. Kyrie can opt-out of the final year of his contract and be an unrestricted free agent. Something that he’ll likely do in an attempt to sign a long-term deal with the Nets.
However, that feeling may not be mutual.
According to Heavy.com, there is a sense around the league that the Nets would be open to a Kyrie Irving sign-and-trade during the offseason. Of course, it would have to make sense for Brooklyn first.
Especially considering that the Nets won’t be able to sign a max free agent outright this offseason even if they were to trade Kyrie elsewhere.
The Nets kind of got burned in the James Harden deal at the NBA Trade Deadline, in which Ben Simmons still hasn’t suited up for the team. If they were to trade Kyrie this offseason, they’d have to get a significant player in return.
Kyrie wants to be in Brooklyn. That much was certain during his postgame press conference after the Nets were eliminated. However, there have been whispers that the Nets may not be ready to give him a long-term extension.
Depending on how Kyrie takes that, it could create a schism between the two sides. That could lead to perhaps Kyrie saying he wants out and the team trying to orchestrate a sign-and-trade.
Again, a lot has to happen, but nothing should come as a surprise when it comes to Kyrie and the Nets.
It’s something else to think about heading into the offseason. Something that has to be on the mind of the decision-makers in Brooklyn already.
