The case for retooling
For all the criticism, the New York Knicks are just one year (or season) removed from finishing the regular season as a top 4 team in the Eastern Conference. New York will also have room to operate during the offseason to sign a difference-maker.
A tweak here and there and there’s a chance that the Knicks could be right back in the conversation as one of the top teams in the East. It likely won’t be easy but it’s not like the Knicks don’t have talent on their roster.
Julius Randle is still a good player (or asset, if he’s not the right fit) and RJ Barrett continued to make strides in his game. Immanuel Quickley is still an emerging player and they have a trio of talented bigs.
If New York can swing Randle for an impactful point guard or wing, there’s a scenario in which the Knicks can begin to climb up the East standings once again.
