NBA Rumors: According to a recent report, the Indiana Pacers and Washington Wizards are expected to pursue Collin Sexton; not the New York Knicks.
Something that is rarely mentioned when talking about the success of the Cleveland Cavaliers this past season (even though they faded toward the end of the season and ultimately missed the postseason) is the absence of Collin Sexton.
Sexton was lost early in the season due to a knee injury after only playing in a handful of games to start the year. Now, he’s slated to be a restricted free agent in which he will likely demand max money on the open market. While it’s expected that the Cavs will try to re-sign him, it could prove to be difficult to make it happen.
That means Sexton will almost certainly explore the free-agent market and could eventually sign an offer sheet with another team. And according to a recent report, there is expected to be a vast market for the 23-year-old guard. A few early teams that are expected to be interested are the Indiana Pacers, Detroit Pistons, and Washington Wizards.
Interestingly, one of the teams not expected to be interested is the New York Knicks.
"[via Bleacher Report]The Knicks are not expected to make a run at Collin Sexton, sources said.…Indiana, Detroit and Washington have all been mentioned as early potential landing spots for Sexton."
There’s still a chance that Sexton hasn’t even hit his ceiling and will be a huge get for any team that can land him. Though he’ll be costly, the hope is that he is still getting better as a pro. Even though he’s not a prototypical point guard, any team that is looking for help in the backcourt should probably be interested.
Even more so if there are any rebuilding teams looking for the potential for future stars. The Pistons and Pacers pretty much fall into that group. The Wizards being interested make sense considering they’ll be looking for a potential star to place next to Bradley Beal, who is expected to re-sign with the team.
Sexton is expected to be one of the most sought-after restricted free agents this offseason. He also happens to be one of the most attainable ones as well.
