NBA Rumors: Could the San Antonio Spurs be a dark horse destination for Collin Sexton?
Heading into the offseason, there’s a high probability that one of the most attainable restricted free agents will be Collin Sexton. The Cleveland Cavaliers will have the opportunity to match any offer sheet that he signs or is offered, but with their cap situation, there is a scenario where they have to let him walk.
And the market for a 23-year-old offensive-minded guard should be massive. Even though he’s coming off a knee injury, it will be hard for rebuilding teams not to look at Sexton and see the opportunity for huge potential.
According to a recent report, one dark horse team that could emerge in the Sexton sweepstakes is the San Antonio Spurs. And the Spurs could use a jolt in the organization. Sexton could be just that.
He only played in 11 games this season before his injury. However, during his third season in the league, last season, Sexton averaged 24 points and four rebounds on 48 percent shooting from the field and 37 percent shooting from 3-point range.
He’d be an interesting addition for any team this offseason, including the Spurs who already have a solid core of young players. A Sexton-Dejounte Murray backcourt could provide quite the intrigue for an organization that is looking for some identity.
There’s so much up in the air when it comes to the Spurs with most of the questions regarding head coach Gregg Popovich. But the team could quiet some of those concerns by making a big splash such as landing one of the most sought-after free agents in Sexton.
There are expected to be plenty of suitors for Sexton, but the Spurs remain one of the most intriguing options for a player that hasn’t even reached the ceiling on his potential.
