OG Anunoby team #1: Utah Jazz
The Utah Jazz are teetering on a total rebuild. After another first-round exit, it’s clear the duo of Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert do not work both on and off the court. Despite both being signed through the 2024-25 season, rumors are running rampant that one of, if not both of them will be moved in this upcoming offseason.
This current Jazz core has been together one year too long, and with the incorporation of Danny Ainge into the front office, it would be shocking to see Gobert and Mitchell on the court together a few months from now.
As for Anunoby, it makes all the sense in the world to acquire the 24-year-old whether they’re going through a full rebuild or not. He would help cure Utah’s horrific perimeter defense, asking guys like Bojan Bogdanovic and Royce O’Neale to guard the opposing team’s best player.
Rudy Gobert would likely be involved in this trade, as the Raptors have long been searching for a traditional center to increase their length on the defensive end even more. A lineup with Fred VanVleet, Scottie Barnes, Pascal Siakam, and Gobert would be one of the best defensive units ever assembled, going back to the 2019 Toronto championship team.
For salary matching purposes, Anunoby and Gary Trent Jr. would get the deal done. The Raptors would likely need to acquire another reputable shooter, whether it’s by sign or trade, to stretch the floor for most of their lineups.
Utah acquiring two startable wings would re-shape their roster considerably, especially if they wanted to hold onto Mitchell and make another run at the playoffs.
