NBA Trade Rumors: 3 landing spots for OG Anunoby
OG Anunoby team #3: Phoenix Suns
If Deandre Ayton and OG Anunoby find themselves in similar situations of discomfort, it may make sense for them to swap teams. Ayton would be the starting center in Toronto immediately, fitting the theme of athleticism and length for their position. Coach Nick Nurse and the Raptors may even buy into the former number one pick’s game on the perimeter, as they’ve transitioned multiple centers into shooters before.
A sign-and-trade involving Ayton would make sense considering the Suns‘ unwillingness to pay the big man. They will need to find an eventual replacement at center, but can easily sign or trade for a reputable seven-footer to man the paint.
By trading for Anunoby, the Suns improve their already stout perimeter defense, running a lineup of Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Mikal Bridges, and OG. He would likely replace the aging Jae Crowder, who could be moved to get another piece.
Opposing teams would try to involve Paul in their actions to take advantage of his size, but the combination of Bridges and OG can help easily will their extreme length for their positions, creating one of the best defenses in the league.
As for the Raptors, adding a productive big man who can create his own shot can improve Toronto’s stagnant offense in the halfcourt while not losing much on the defensive end.
This trade would improve both teams for the present and the future.
