NBA Trade Rumors: The Washington Wizards are reportedly keeping a close eye on Malcolm Brogdon and Mike Conley Jr. as possible trade targets.
Over the past couple of weeks, there’s been a growing indication that Bradley Beal intends on re-signing with the Washington Wizards. He’s a free agent after the season and really holds all the cards for the Wizards’ offseason.
However, at this point, it would be wildly surprising if Beal didn’t re-sign with the team this offseason. That means that the Wizards will likely be operating in an attempt to surround him with significant talent this summer.
And according to a recent report, two names that the Wizards are keeping a close eye on are Malcolm Brogdon and Mike Conley Jr. – two players that may or may not even be available this offseason.
Brogdon is the more likely player that could be moved. He’s on an Indiana Pacers team that is reshuffling the roster and recently added Tyrese Haliburton at the NBA Trade Deadline. Selecting at No. 6 in the 2022 NBA Draft, they’ll also be in a position to add talent to the backcourt (if they want).
That could open the door for a potential trade of Brogdon, who at 29 years old may not be on the same timeline as the Pacers’ young core.
As for Conley, that’s where it gets interesting. If Conley is moved this offseason, it’s probably because the Jazz will be trying to surround Donovan Mitchell with a guard that fits better or because there’s a fire sale within the organization.
Either way, I’m not sure both players would cost that much for a team like the Wizards. And considering they’re looking to take a shot in the dark with one of these players, it could be worth it for a team that is trying to make their way back up the East standings.
