NBA Rumors: Bobby Portis is expected to re-sign with the Milwaukee Bucks this offseason.
What’s most unfortunate about the Milwaukee Bucks this season is that there’s a strong argument to be made that they were a Khris Middleton injury away from another possible NBA Championship.
But that’s the nature of the NBA. On any given night. Heading into the offseason, the goal for the Bucks will be to get healthy and solidify the supporting cast around the team’s core. One player that has emerged as a key cog for the team is Bobby Portis.
Portis averaged 15 points and nine rebounds per game on 48 percent shooting from the field and 39 percent shooting from 3-point range. With Brook Lopez injured for the majority of the regular season, he became vital for the team’s success. However, he’s slated to test free agency this offseason.
He has a player option for next season but after the season he just had, he should get some competitive offers. According to a recent report, though, the expectation is that Portis is going to re-sign with the Bucks on a multi-year deal this offseason – something they couldn’t offer last offseason.
Portis is a big part of the Bucks’ recent success and it will be imperative that the team does what it takes to bring him back next season. If the Bucks are going to get back into the title picture next season, the supporting cast is going to have to take a step forward.
And a big part of that this past season was Portis. On the open market, he’ll likely get rich offers. But if the Bucks can lock him up with a multi-year contract, he would be a huge get. He would give the Bucks options heading into the offseason, especially when it comes to the uncertainty that is Lopez’s future with the team.
