2022 NBA Draft: Ranking the top 5 players at each position
Point guards
1. Ty Ty Washington Jr., Kentucky
Strengths: He can be a decent scorer with his shooting ability, solid catch, and shoot guard, he can play both guard positions well. If needed, he can record high assists. He is also a good rebounder for his position.
Weaknesses: Not overly athletic for a pg, lacks the ideal burst for a guard, struggled against elite competition in college, lacks the ability to get to the line, but that can improve.
2. Kennedy Chandler, Tennessee
Strengths: Very quick, can create his shot and is an excellent passer, solid shooter especially form three, can read defenses very well, high-level offensive IQ.
Weaknesses: Horrible free throw percentage, extremely small, good defender against fellow guards, questionable if he can play in the NBA because of his size
3. JD Davison, Alabama
Strengths: FREAK athlete, great burst, solid offensive rebounder, solid assists, can get blocks at the guard position,
Weaknesses: Poor decision making, poor shooting, not a great scorer, not sure if he is a PG or SG, can turn the ball over often,
4. Jean Montero, OT Elite
Strengths: Fearless finisher, solid handles, young, natural scorer, solid passing game, natural scorer, solid pullup jumper, good transition game, especially with his ability to steal the ball and create space for himself as a shooter.
Weaknesses: Smaller guard, hasn’t played against the elite-level competition, not overly athletic, not an efficient shooter, can tend to turn the ball over, concerns over the ability to guard at the NBA level due to his inexperience against good competition.
5. Hugo Besson, NZ
Strengths: Solid scorer, can draw fouls well, good handles to blow by defenders, offensive confidence, passing upside
Weaknesses: Weak shooting efficiency, can be selfish at times when teammates are open, poor court vision at times, struggles to get past big men, wrong decision making at times with shooting
