NBA Draft Rumors: According to a recent report, the Sacramento Kings are open to trading the No. 4 overall pick in the draft.
It has been 16 years since the Sacramento Kings last made the NBA playoffs. The hope was that they could end that decade-plus streak this season, but that didn’t exactly happen. Instead, the Kings will be drafting in the top 5 once again.
Or, at least that’s the expectation. The Kings will have the No. 4 overall pick heading into the 2022 NBA Draft. But there’s no guarantee that they’ll keep that pick. According to a recent report, the Kings could be open to trading the No. 4 pick that they currently own.
It should come as no surprise that the Kings would be open to trading the pick. They are in desperate need of a change that could alter the trajectory of the franchise. At least for now, there’s no guarantee that the Kings are heading in the right direction.
That’s the hope but considering that the Kings have not made the playoffs in nearly two decades, it’s difficult to assume this build will result in success. The Kings should be asking for – and no pun intended – a king’s ransom for the No. 4 pick.
Sacramento isn’t in a place where it could view the No. 4 pick as a luxury. If there’s a chance that they could flip that pick for a disgruntled star or for what they view as something with more value, they should absolutely jump at the idea.
The Kings are coming off a season in which they finished with the fourth-worst record in the Western Conference. They don’t appear close to breaking through in the West and because of that, everything should be on the table for this team during the offseason. Including trading the No. 4 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.
