NBA Trade Rumors: Donovan Mitchell is expected to demand a trade
NBA Trade Rumors: According to a recent report, the expectation is that Donovan Mitchell will eventually demand a trade away from the Utah Jazz.
Sometimes the writing is on the wall. And that’s exactly the way it feels with the Utah Jazz at the moment.
Not only does it feel like their current championship window has closed, but it almost feels like the end of an era in Utah – so much so that head coach Quin Snyder elected to resign from his position even though he was offered a fair-market extension.
Now that Snyder is gone, all eyes are on Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell. They have been whispers surrounding both players and the possibility of them being traded, but for the most part, the Jazz has done a good job of quieting all of it.
But the offseason will be key. Can they sell each other on the other, and on the team’s next build? If the answer to that question is no, this could set off a firestorm heading into the summer. Perhaps the biggest problem for the Jazz right now is that the smoke simply doesn’t seem to stop.
One report has indicated that the Jazz could be open to trading Gobert and not Mitchell. However, according to another recent report, the expectation around the league is that Donovan Mitchell will eventually demand a trade away from the team.
At this point, I’m not sure there’s anything that could be done this offseason that would “come as a surprise” regarding the Jazz. The hope – at least for the fan base and those in the front office, one would assume – is that they enter the 2022-23 NBA season with both Gobert and Mitchell on the roster. And that they’re both choosing to be on the roster.
Though, at least when it comes to the recent reporting, it seems like there’s at least an outside chance that a big move could be coming this offseason from Utah. From the sound of it, it seems like the Jazz is hoping it’s just Gobert. But Mitchell could try and force his way out. And it seems like those around the league almost expect it to happen – whether that’s sooner or later.
