NBA Trade Rumors: Pistons are expected to move on from Jerami Grant
NBA Trade Rumors: The Detroit Pistons are expected to trade Jerami Grant this offseason.
In the midst of what appears will be a long rebuild, the Detroit Pistons are a team to watch this offseason. Especially in the next week ahead of the 2022 NBA Draft. They could emerge as a team that could help orchestrate a big blockbuster trade or one that could even participate as a central character in a deal.
One player on the roster that could command plenty of attention over the next couple of weeks (before and after the NBA Draft) is Jerami Grant. Adding fuel to the fire, there is reason to believe that he could be targeted this offseason.
According to a recent report from ESPN, the expectation is that the Pistons are going to move on from Grant this summer (and the NBA Draft could be the perfect opportunity for a deal to arise). The report highlights Grant’s expiring contract and lack of a long-term fit with the Pistons’ new/current core.
That makes sense considering that the Pistons are in rebuilding mode. A player such as Grant would be a better fit on a team that is in contention. For all the good that the Pistons have done in rebuilding their roster over the past two seasons, the team is nowhere close to contending, and moving Grant for an additional asset or two would likely be better for the team from a big picture perspective.
If the Pistons do indeed shop Grant this offseason, there should be a healthy amount of teams interested. At 28 years old, he’s one of the most underrated two-way forwards in the league and is coming off a season in which he averaged 19 points and four rebounds on 43 percent shooting from the field and 36 percent shooting from 3-point range.
