NBA Rumors: According to a recent report, the Dallas Mavericks are expected to target Goran Dragic in free agency this offseason.
Last season, after getting bought out by the San Antonio Spurs (he was traded there at the deadline from Toronto), the expectation was that Goran Dragic was going to sign with the Dallas Mavericks.
He is good friends with Luka Doncic and had been linked to the Mavs in the past. However, Dragic chose to chase a title with the Brooklyn Nets instead. Now that he’s a free agent, Dragic will once again have the opportunity to sign with whichever team he chooses.
According to a recent report, it’s something that the Mavs are going to explore once again.
Dragic could emerge as a low-cost option for the Mavs in their attempt to continue to add depth around Luka – and perhaps Jalen Brunson.
Dallas has a big decision to make regarding Brunson in free agency and then will have to continue to build out the roster. Landing Christian Wood was a luxury because it gives the Mavs freedom to continue to add depth to the wing and backcourt.
Wood solidifies the frontcourt and now the Mavs could focus on other needs. However, from the Mavs’ perspective, they may not be the best landing spot for Dragic. They may not be many minutes for him on a roster that already has Luka, Spencer Dinwiddie, Brunson (if he re-signs), and Tim Hardaway Jr., who is coming off an injury.
However, if Dragic is looking to play with his buddies in a comfortable landing spot, Dallas could be that. It all just depends on what Dragic is looking for at this stage of his career.
But, at the least, it would be surprising if the Mavs didn’t emerge as an option for Dragic.
