NBA Trade Rumors: Rockets could trade Eric Gordon at the NBA Draft
NBA Trade Rumors: The Houston Rockets are reportedly seeking a first-round pick in exchange for Eric Gordon, and draft night could be the perfect time for a deal.
In the midst of a rebuild, the Houston Rockets are a team to watch heading into the NBA Draft. They already traded Christian Wood (to the Dallas Mavericks) and now have three first-round picks and still some pieces they could elect to trade.
One of those pieces is veteran Eric Gordon. He’s essentially entering the final year of his contract (with a team option for the 2023-24 season) and would be a good asset to trade this offseason for Houston.
He’s still a quality piece for any contender and is coming off a season in which he was still productive. Gordon averaged 13 points and three assists on 48 percent shooting from the field and 41 percent shooting from 3-point range. He could fill a need for any team that’s looking to add depth to the backcourt and even fill in as a spot-starter.
According to Marc Stein, the Rockets will likely be open to trading Gordon. Especially after the Christian Wood deal. The team is reportedly seeking a first-round pick and NBA Draft night seems like an ideal time for a deal to come to fruition.
Though, with three first-round picks already, it will be interesting to see what type of pick the Rockets would be seeking. If they add a fourth first-round pick for this year, you’d have to assume that they could package a pair of those to move up.
Of course, they could add a future first-round pick in an attempt to spread out their assets. Either way, the Rockets should be sitting pretty as they enter what will be year 2 of their rebuild.
