NBA Rumors: The Philadelphia 76ers and Chicago Bulls are expected to show interest in P.J. Tucker.

It wasn’t exactly surprising that P.J. Tucker elected to opt-out of the final year of his contract with the Miami Heat. At the same rate, his availability could make for an interesting free agency pursuit this offseason.

Tucker is coming off a season in which he averaged eight points, six rebounds, and two assists per game on 48 percent shooting from the field and 42 percent shooting from 3-point range. All while playing excellent defense, often guarding the opposing team’s best offensive player.

According to recent reports, both the Philadelphia 76ers and Chicago Bulls are expected to express interest in Tucker. This is probably just the start. There should be a myriad of teams (specifically contenders) interested in contenders. Plus, there’s no question that the Heat will be interested as well.

Tucker was a key part of the Heat’s success this past season and would leave a huge hole in the team’s rotation if he wasn’t re-signed. At the same rate, he’d offer huge solutions for any contender that’s looking for a versatile 3-and-D wing.

Tucker may be 37 years old but turned in a very efficient offensive season while playing at an extremely high level on the defensive end. He may only have one or two years left playing at a high level, and if that’s the case there’s no question that he could be worth $10-$12 million per.

And you’d have to imagine that’s exactly what Tucker will be seeking as he heads into the offseason.

I’d still say there’s a good chance that he re-signs with the Heat. They are a great match for each other. But it’s clear that business comes first. And Tucker needs to get his in order. Question is, how much does the Heat want him to return next season?
