The Portland Trail Blazers draft Shaedon Sharpe

Roughly 24 hours before the start of the 2022 NBA Draft, the Portland Trail Blazers acquired Jerami Grant from the Detroit Pistons. It was a sign that the team was committed to Damian Lillard and indicated they were ready to “win now.”

However, then, at the 2022 NBA Draft, the team selected Shaedon Sharpe with the No. 7 overall pick – a selection that perhaps doesn’t exactly echo “win now.”

Sharpe is an amazing talent. But the whispers around him are that he’s far from a “win now” player. Of course, he could end up proving his naysayers wrong. But Sharpe has not played organized basketball in almost two years.

He’s a great talent but I’m not sure there are many players that can go two years without playing organized basketball and then turn it on for a playoff contender. Much less a player that has no experience in the NBA.

Sharpe will have a chance to prove it. At least to me, drafting him at No. 7 didn’t seem like the move that will put the team in the best position heading into the offseason.
