Donovan Mitchell fits Bam’s timeline better than Kevin Durant

There are a few things here that favor the Heat targeting Donovan Mitchell over Kevin Durant. First, Mitchell is 25 and Durant will be 34 by the time next season begins. Mitchell is in the prime of his career and Durant is probably past his best days in the NBA.

That’s not to say he still can’t be the best player in the league, which he probably currently is, but Durant is more than likely to get worse and not better over the course of the next 2-3 years. You can’t say that about Mitchell. In fact, you can say the opposite about Mitchell.

And, specifically for the Heat, Mitchell fits Bam’s timeline better. Bam is 24 years old and is still growing as a star in this league. Durant may give the Heat a great chance to win a title in the next 2-3 years but adding Mitchell will give Heat a good chance to win the title in the next 5-10, even if we see a drop-off from Jimmy Butler, who will be 33 at the start of next season.
