Miami Heat can’t mortgage Bam Adebayo’s future

If the Miami Heat believes that Bam Adebayo is the player that they say he is, there’s no way they can afford to mortgage his future with the team for 2-3 years of a championship window. To acquire both Kevin Durant and Donovan Mitchell, it’s going to be costly.

And the Heat will likely have to part ways with almost all their draft assets for the foreseeable future. I mean, Gobert netted four first-round picks. Mitchell and Durant will cost that and then some.

Trading all that for Durant would leave Bam trying to pick up the pieces by himself once the next 2-3 years are gone and both Jimmy and KD are gone. That’s not fair for a Bam who would finally be reaching the prime years of his career by that time.

While the idea of acquiring Durant is enticing, there’s some context that needs to be provided.
