NBA Trade Rumors: With stars on the move, the New York Knicks will likely hold onto draft capital.

Ah, the New York Knicks. As a lifelong fan, I have yet again been stabbed in the back by my hometown team. With Rudy Gobert recently being traded, it appears likely that all-star guard Donovan Mitchell could be asking out of Utah soon.

Being from New York, it has been reported that Donovan Mitchell views the Knicks as one of his top destinations if he were to leave Salt Lake City.

Mitchell is one of the league’s top shooting guards and is still only 25 years old. He would be a PERFECT fit for New York, providing a secondary ball-handler to newly acquired point guard Jalen Brunson.

But, in classic Knicks fashion, they’ll find a way to screw something up. Leon Rose and the Knicks’ front office have the opportunity to replace last year’s failed backcourt of Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier with a great young point guard in Jalen Brunson and a superstar in Donovan Mitchell.

The Knicks can offload some of the 11 first-round picks they have in the next 7 years as well as some of their young talents that rarely receive minutes like Obi Toppin and Cam Reddish. They could even go the route of trading Julius Randle to the Jazz, however, I doubt the Knicks have much interest in moving on from him and the Jazz won’t have much interest in the former all-star.

After some solid signings in the offseason, the Knicks have the opportunity to propel this roster into contention. And they’re hesitant to offload first-round picks, per recent reporting?

The Knicks’ front office needs to shape up, plain and simple. There is no excuse to not go for a talent like Mitchell considering the mutual interest.

We’ll see if Leon Rose changes his mind as the offseason progresses, but as of right now, this is a bad look.
