NBA Trade Rumors: According to a recent report, the Washington Wizards may be the favorites to land John Collins.
At the start of the NBA offseason, John Collins was one player that many expected the Atlanta Hawks to trade. However, the NBA Draft, a breeding ground for trades, and the first few days of NBA free agency have passed without a Collins trade.
The Hawks have been busy, though. Atlanta has acquired Dejounte Murray in exchange for a trove of draft picks and shipped Kevin Huerter to the Sacramento Kings. While the expectation is that we’ll still get a Collins trade at some point, it’s really anyone’s guess when one will actually come to fruition.
Especially considering that Kevin Durant is on the trade block right now, which has nearly every team’s attention.
Whenever Collins does get traded, however, it appears that there’s a good chance it could be to the Washington Wizards. According to a recent report, the Wizards appear to be one of the favorites.
Adding Collins would be an interesting next move for the Wizards after signing Bradley Beal to a huge extension. Washington has already added an interesting two-way rookie Johnny Davis with their first-round pick and still has Kristaps Porzingis on the roster stemming from a trade last season.
They also have some intriguing young prospects that should continue to take progressional steps in their game. It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility to see the Wizards make a major jump in the East standings next season, even more so if they’re able to land Collins via trade.
Even though the Wizards managed to sign Beal to an extension this offseason, I don’t think they’re out of the woods just yet. As we’ve seen time and time again, a player could request out at any time regardless of contract situations.
The Wizards need to continue building around Beal. And Collins would be a solid addition.
