Jabari Smith Jr., F, Houston Rockets

Jabari Smith was looking to be the No. 1 selection prior to draft night but fell and the Houston Rockets with the third pick. Smith may not be blowing up the stat sheet so far in Summer League, but that shouldn’t be a concern long-term.

Smith has struggled to have the shots fall his way and can lack aggressiveness. The only issue with his game that needs addressing is his ability to drive the lane. Smith has all the tools to drive the lane, but it doesn’t appear to be a part of his game.

The most impressive part of Smith’s game has been his defense. Smith never gives up on the defensive end. His length and high IQ shine when he locks down opposing players. Smith struggled against Banchero, but besides that game, he was always in the right spot when it matters and can play in transition very well.

Smith always has his eyes and hands on the ball and will force players to pick n roll to make it easier for them to attempt a shot or dish it off. Once Smith knocks down shots, Rockets fans will be ecstatic with this Smith, so don’t sleep on him now because his time will come.
