For the New York Knicks, it may be finally time to decide between RJ Barrett or Donovan Mitchell.

As word quickly came down that the Utah Jazz was perhaps finally ready to listen to trade offers for Donovan Mitchell, the New York Knicks quickly emerged as a natural landing spot for the superstar.

However, for the Knicks to acquire Mitchell, it’s likely going to take the team passing on Barrett’s future. In essence, for New York to be able to land Mitchell, it’s going to cost Barrett. And, quite frankly, it’s not as easy of a decision as one might expect.

Barrett is coming off the best season of his career thus far in which he was averaging 20 points, six rebounds, and three assists per game on 41 percent shooting from the floor. Mitchell, who many perceive as a superstar in the league, averages 26 points, five assists, and four rebounds per game on 45 percent shooting from the field.

Over the course of the next few days or weeks, assuming that the Knicks want to be in on the Mitchell sweepstakes, they’ll have to make a decision on whether the team is willing to include Barrett in a trade package for Mitchell.

We’ll explore the pros and cons of such a move.
