Why the New York Knicks may have second thoughts

Even though Donovan Mitchell is available, it wouldn’t be all that surprising if the New York Knicks had second thoughts about potentially going all-in with an offer for him. For one, I’m not sure how great of a fit he’d be next to Jalen Brunson in the backcourt.

Second, unloading the asset chest for Mitchell may not be something the front office believes is worthy spending. After all, the Knicks have been carefully compiling these assets for the right moment. Perhaps management doesn’t believe this is the right time?

Third, maybe the front office believes that Barrett’s ceiling as a superstar is higher than Mitchell’s. In that case, it may be better for the Knicks to simply stand pat and continue with their current build.

Either way, it’s hard to see a losing situation for the Knicks right now with the current options on the table.
