The Los Angeles Lakers should view Patrick Beverley as a realistic trade target.

As the Los Angeles Lakers continue to wait on whether the Brooklyn Nets will eventually fold and trade Kyrie Irving to them, there are other complementary moves that the team could still explore to make.

And one of those targets should be Patrick Beverley, who will likely be traded at some point this offseason. Especially as it begins to look more and more like the Utah Jazz will be pivoting to a full-blown rebuild.

As the Jazz begins to listen to offers for Donovan Mitchell, it’s also said that no one on the roster is untouchable and that their veterans are surely on the trade block. Beverley would qualify as such and could be a valuable addition for a team that is looking to add depth to their backcourt and leadership to their locker room.

Beverley surely has his limitations as a player, but he’s a really good defensive pest, a capable offensive player, and knows his role. At 34 years old, he probably still has a couple more valuable years that he can offer as a player.

He’s certainly a player that the Lakers should target as they wait out the Kyrie situation and have already been linked as one of the teams potentially interested. And considering he’s an expiring contract after this season, he likely wouldn’t cost much.

Or, the Lakers could wait out a Mitchell deal and hopefully stick their head in as a third or fourth team to try and land Beverley.

Beverley is the type of player that the Lakers could use to add some toughness and depth to their backcourt. Beverley could be a spot-starter or a valuable bench player for this team. This is not a move that will headline an offseason, but certainly one that could pay dividends during the regular season and surely in the playoffs.
