NBA Rumors: Could it be possible that Russell Westbrook’s days in the league are numbered?

It’s no surprise that the Los Angeles Lakers would be open to trading Russell Westbrook at some point this offseason. The right deal hasn’t come to fruition just yet, but I firmly believe that it would be surprising if the Lakers entered training camp with Westbrook on their roster.

Simply put, amongst everything, Westbrook hasn’t been a great fit on the Lakers next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Aside from that, I can’t really speak. But at least from a basketball perspective, the Westbrook fit never seemed to make sense.

And it’s probably best that the Lakers work to fix that original mistake.

But there’s an entirely separate fallout from just what the Lakers would look like on the other side of a Westbrook trade – what would that potential fallout look like for Russ?

What would his basketball future look like if he was traded to Indiana, New York, or Utah?

It’s tough to predict, but would be extremely surprising if Westbrook ever played for any of those teams even if he was traded there. Though, ESPN’s Tim Bontemps had some interesting comments on what could lie ahead for Westbrook should he not play for the Lakers this season.

And he suggests that it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that he could be out of the league. And there wasn’t a huge pushback from Brian Windhorst or Tim MacMahon who were discussing the issue on a recent podcast.

Windy went on to say that the market is really dry at the moment for Russ.

Thinking it through, it’s not that insane of a comment. Even though it perhaps seems that way in essence.

Russ is about to be 34 and doesn’t have a perimeter game. He’s still quite athletic for his age but is coming off one of the least productive and least efficient seasons to date. If Russ isn’t willing to either change his game or be open to a much lesser role than being a team’s starting point guard, perhaps he could be out of the league. And maybe as soon as this season.
