NBA Rumors: Miami Heat linked to restricted free agent Collin Sexton
NBA Rumors: Miami Heat president Pat Riley linked to restricted free agent Collin Sexton.
The Miami Heat, despite making a deep run in the NBA Playoffs last season, still has plenty of questions heading into the new season. Even more so after the team lost PJ Tucker in free agency to the Philadelphia 76ers.
And still, the Heat hasn’t really done much in free agency. They’re still holding out hope in potentially acquiring Kevin Durant or Donovan Mitchell, but that doesn’t appear to be coming to fruition.
Interestingly enough, the Heat has also been linked to another name. And one that they wouldn’t have to give up much to land.
According to a recent report, Heat president Pat Riley reportedly likes Collin Sexton. If nothing else, it adds another possible wrinkle to the offseason.
"“I had kept hearing, ‘Pat Riley likes Collin Sexton. Pat Riley likes Sexton,’ from one person that I trust who knows things,” NBA insider Jake Fischer said."
Sexton would be an interesting addition to the Heat. Though, there would be some moving around Miami would have to do. They’re already somewhat crowded in the backcourt.
However, Sexton is the type of talent that the Heat should be interested in adding. He’s a player that would take huge offensive pressure off of Jimmy Butler and is young enough that he also fits on the timeline with Bam Adebayo.
The Heat, though, would have to give him a hefty deal. He’s seeking a long-term, big-money deal that Cleveland, up until now, hasn’t been willing to give him.
The expectation is that the Heat will do something before the start of the season. And Sexton is another option for Miami, I suppose. The next few weeks should be interesting to watch unfold for the Heat.
