How high is the ceiling for Anthony Edwards?

Anthony Edwards has quickly become one of the most beloved players in the NBA. Edwards is one of the most exciting young talents in the league. He is also one of the most entertaining players to follow on and off the court.

Edwards is athletically gifted, a multi-sport high school star who could have gone on and played football at an elite level but pursued basketball. While Edwards has all the confidence in the world, how good can he be next season?

"In a recent interview, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ young talent, Anthony Edwards, said, “After this year, I think I’ll be in the (best player) conversation.”"

These are some big words from a player who only has two seasons on his resume. Edwards was the first overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft. There was some questioning regarding his dedication to basketball due to the interview. We now know that Edwards is here to stay and is very dedicated to the game and now wants to be one of the best. And that he is well worth the draft price.

Edwards claims he will be in the conversation as one of the best in the league is heavy. Those hefty expectations are great to hear from a young star who has the potential to be great. Edwards thrives off his mental belief in himself, and his overall confidence is a big reason for his success. Edwards averaged 21 points, five rebounds, and four assists last season. In the playoffs, Edwards showed why he was the number one selection. Edwards had over 30 points twice in the playoff series against the Grizzlies, leading to one of the most exciting series to watch all playoffs.

Edwards is destined to star in this league; his athleticism and confidence on the floor are remarkable. Very few athletes have the upside Edwards bears. He struggles with shooting consistency and defense, but the addition of Rudy Gobert will allow Edwards to prioritize his offensive game, where Gobert doesn’t excel.

Will Edwards be in the conversation as the best player in the league after the coming season? Not likely, but he can enter the top 15 discussions. Edwards has all the talent to be great. His athleticism is off the charts, but until we see him develop into a more consistent shooter and make a solid playoff run, we have to bring down our expectations after his quote.
