Kevin Durant has met with Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai and reportedly wants ownership to choose between him and the general manager.

Now that Kevin Durant has met with Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai, one thing has become clear. It’s that KD wants Tsai to choose between him or the pairing of general manager Sean Marks and head coach Steve Nash. That is according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

If the Nets wanted clarity on KD’s point of view, it has become clear now. Durant wants a trade because he doesn’t believe in Marks and Nash as the leaders of the franchise. Interestingly enough, it has nothing to do with Kyrie Irving.

Or at least that’s not the message that Durant wants out in the open.

Either way, it places the Nets in an awkward and extremely difficult situation. And this is where it could potentially get real. Quite frankly, I’m not really sure how the Nets can move forward with firing both the general manager and head coach.

No one player should have that much power in an organization. And, again, this is not a 24-year-old Kevin Durant we’re talking about. This version of Durant will be 34 by the time the new season begins and has at best 2-3 years of elite basketball remaining.

And that’s if he can remain healthy.

It also seems we’re beyond the point of reconciliation. This seems like it’s something that has been on Durant’s mind for a while. Perhaps since the moment he joined the team. Durant gave Marks time to prove himself and maybe doesn’t see eye-to-eye with his vision of building around him.

Durant may feel the pressure of winning a title and that could be at the forefront of his thinking right now. Durant has to know that he has, at best, 2-3 years to get one more title. And perhaps he doesn’t believe that Marks could build a championship team around him and that Nash can’t coach one.

Again, this is all speculation but kind of the conclusions that you draw when a player wants a general manager and coach fired.

So, Durant just threw a grenade into the Nets’ bunker. How will they respond? The next couple of weeks could be quite interesting. And I can’t help but think that perhaps we just got a little closer to a possible Durant trade.
