LeBron James ends the speculation and signed a two-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Los Angeles Lakers had several big questions heading into this offseason. And while they haven’t done much to answer the majority of those questions, you can argue that they’ve answered their biggest one.

Per ESPN, LeBron James has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Lakers. At least for now, the city of Los Angeles and Lakers fans specifically, can now breathe a sigh of relief. LeBron isn’t going anywhere. Not for a while.

There was some speculation throughout the offseason that perhaps LeBron could leave Los Angeles after this season. Though, that has now all been quelled. LeBron will now be under contract with the Lakers through the 2024-25 season. Ironically enough, it’s when his son, Bronny, could enter the NBA Draft.

He could be eligible for the 2024 NBA Draft but could play in college and hold off until 2025 before entering the draft.

Either way, this is a move that probably made the most sense for LeBron. He reportedly doesn’t want to leave Los Angeles and would only do so to accomplish the goal of playing with his son, Bronny, at some point in the near future.

Now, you’d have to wonder what will come next for the Lakers. With LeBron under contract for the foreseeable future, perhaps the team will be more willing to go all-in on another move – maybe one for Kyrie Irving?

As long as LeBron is on the roster, the Lakers should be title contenders in the Western Conference. This doesn’t change anything for the franchise and only extends their title window.

LeBron has made his move. It’s time for the Lakers to keep up their end of the bargain. And it could happen sooner rather than later.
