NBA fans were infatuated with “The Last Dance,” but LeBron James’ and Dwyane Wade’s Redeem Team documentary has a chance to be better.
It wasn’t too long ago that most basketball fans were enthralled with “The Last Dance” documentary that premiered on Netflix. And many of those same fans are chomping at the bit with the latest bit of news regarding the basketball documentary community.
And it’s that, later this year (October 7), Netflix is set to release a documentary on the 2008 Redeem Team that won Gold during the Olympics. After years of international disappointment, this was the year that Team USA finally rose above the recent scrutiny to return to Olympic glory.
Led by Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Dwyane Wade, the 2008 USA Basketball team was highly influential in the dominance that Team USA is currently experiencing right now in the international community.
In fact, USA Basketball has won gold in each of the three Olympics since 2008. It was the moment when the best basketball players began to feel the importance of donning the USA Jersey again.
The 2004 team embarrassingly finished with a bronze medal. It was the first time since the 1988 Olympics that the USA didn’t finish by winning a gold medal. It was a turning moment for USA Basketball. And it led to what we have now.
And this documentary has the potential to go down as an all-time great film. Especially considering that it’s being produced by LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. If those two players are involved, you can imagine that the inside stories and scoops that are going to be included will be great.
This is the type of project that has the same potential that a “Last Dance” had. It may not be a full-on LeBron documentary but could be the closest thing we get to one at the moment.
“The Last Dance” was an amazing documentary but a possible Redeem Team documentary has plenty of potential to match or even surpass the hype.
