NBA Rumors: Two names that have been linked to the Brooklyn Nets recently are Tristan Thompson and Carmelo Anthony.

Now that the Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving drama has been sorted out, the next steps for the Brooklyn Nets leading up to the start of training camp will involve filling out the rest of its roster. At the moment, the Nets have six open roster spots and one two-way roster spot. They have a good amount of work to do in filling out the remainder of this roster.

With the expectation that the Nets will be competing for a top spot in the Eastern Conference, it wouldn’t be surprising if Brooklyn targeted veteran players for these last six spots. There are plenty on the open market and two that they’ve been linked to recently are Tristan Thompson and Carmelo Anthony.

How the Brooklyn Nets could fill out the rest of their roster

Both would help their frontcourt depth and, specifically, Melo is a player that Durant has reportedly been pushing for.

Neither are in the prime of their career but they could be potential options that head coach Steve Nash would have at his disposal. It’s never a bad idea to add veterans to the end of your roster and a player like Melo is still one that could score the basketball. He struggles defensively, but he’d have a role for the Nets.

Even with the return of Durant and Kyrie, there is still plenty that the Nets have to figure out. And there will likely be some internal issues that will need to be sorted out. After all, are they really going to act as if Durant didn’t try and fire both Nash and general manager Sean Marks?

On paper, the Nets will have one of the stronger rosters in the East. There’s no question about it. And if Ben Simmons is healthy by any stretch of the imagination, that completely changes things and raises this team’s ceiling.

But there will be things that need to be sorted out, from the front office to the locker room. Adding veterans that have been around the block could potentially help on that front. Even more so if they’re players that Durant wants in the locker room.

Brooklyn needs to find six bodies to take into camp. It would be a fair bet that the majority of them will be veterans, perhaps both Thompson and Melo included.
