In our 30 teams in 30 days series, we explore whether Dejounte Murray can resurrect the Atlanta Hawks’ hopes heading into the 2022-23 NBA season.

The Atlanta Hawks entered the offseason with a point to prove. This team didn’t want to return the same roster after falling short of expectations. And that’s exactly what took place when the offseason opened.

Atlanta made waves this offseason by acquiring Dejounte Murray from the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for Danilo Gallinari and multiple first-round draft picks. Though, how much of an impact will a new running mate for Trae Young seemingly make?

Can the Atlanta Hawks rebound after taking a step back last season?

For the Hawks, there is a lot at stake heading into the 2022-23 NBA season. After taking somewhat of a step back last season, the Hawks need to prove that this core is worth building around. At least for now, I’m not sure if that’s a certainty.

Was their run to the conference finals an aberration?

Is John Collins a bad fit next to Young (and now Murray)?

Will improvement from Onyeka Okongwu help solidify the young core? 

There are plenty of questions and concerns that the Hawks will have to answer this season. The good news is that there was a tangible improvement that was made this offseason. Question is, will it translate to on-the-court success immediately?
