Boston Celtics injury rumors: Danilo Gallinari set to miss start of season?
Danilo Gallinari could miss the start of the season for the Boston Celtics.
Falling two wins short of an NBA Championship, the Boston Celtics didn’t just sit on their hands and feet entering the offseason. They knew how close they were and did a great job of adding to an already talented roster.
When the offseason opened, the Celtics added Malcolm Brogdon and Danilo Gallinari, who players that will be penciled into the team’s rotation. Though, Galo’s start with the team could be a bit tricky.
Danilo Gallinari seems to have avoided a serious injury
During an International game, Galo injured his knee. Initially, it appeared that he had suffered a significant injury. However, the diagnosis was officially a torn meniscus – an injury that is not as significant as one to a ligament.
While Galo is still expected to miss time, the hope is that he can be back sooner rather than later – especially considering that the start of the regular season is still a month and a half away. That said, the early indications are that Galo will likely miss training camp and possibly the start of the season.
A report from Italy suggests that Galo will be out for roughly 6-8 weeks. That puts his possible return date at about the start of the regular season.
Though, considering it’s the start of the season, and that Galo is a seasoned veteran, it wouldn’t at all be surprised if the Celtics played it somewhat safe with his return. And even when he does return, he’ll likely be eased into his role with the team.
If Galo is back by Thanksgiving, it will give him plenty of time to work his way into comfort with the Celtics. Considering how the injury looked, this is a best-case scenario for Galo. Of course, there hasn’t been an official timeline attached to him from the Celtics, but the early indications are that he should be back fairly soon.
The Celtics will have high expectations heading into the season and the hope is that they will be able to take that final step with this core and deliver a championship back to Boston.
Toward the end of last season, the Celtics were one of the most overwhelming teams in the NBA. It’ll be interesting to see if they can pick up where they left off last season.
