Why it’s smart to buy the Cleveland Cavaliers’ potential this season

Not only is it smart to buy Donovan Mitchell potentially having one of the best seasons of his career thus far, but the Cleveland Cavaliers will have a chance to take a lot of people by surprise this season.

Because their roster is so young, the Cavs will not be considered a championship contender to start the season. But that could quickly change if the Cavs click together quickly and if Mitchell emerges as an MVP candidate.

Looking at what transpired in the Eastern Conference playoffs last season, it wouldn’t be that outrageous if the Cavs emerged as a legit threat to win the conference. The Boston Celtics did so with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown making a leap in their respective games.

If Mitchell and Garland can do something similar, you can make the argument that the Cavs have better third and fourth options – with Mobley and Allen. Boston’s depth wasn’t particularly anything special either.

Cleveland will have to prove their worth. There’s no question about that. But this team’s ceiling and best could be good enough to compete with the likes of the Celtics and Bucks. And that’s a big statement.
