As we check in with the Dallas Mavericks, we explore if Luka Doncic and the Mavs can overcome what many would consider a “bad” offseason.
After making a somewhat surprising run to the Western Conference Finals last season, there’s no question that the Dallas Mavericks will be a team to watch this season. However, it may be difficult for the team to replicate the success from last season.
Coming off what many would call a “bad” offseason, the Mavs certainly have their work cut out for themselves heading into the 2022-23 NBA season.
The Dallas Mavericks lost a big piece this offseason
It’s clear that the Mavs lost a big piece in Jalen Brunson and they didn’t do much to replace his presence in the lineup. But the hope is that the Mavs don’t miss much of a beat this upcoming season in his absence, but that may not be realistic.
For everything that Brunson isn’t, he was a valuable contributor for the Mavs this past season. You can make an argument that the Mavs don’t make it to the conference finals without Brunson. Especially in that first round when Dallas needed to survive without Luka in the lineup.
One of the biggest questions for the Mavs heading into this season revolves around how they’ll recover while losing Brunson.
