NBA Rumors: New York Knicks not interested in big-name veterans
NBA Rumors: The New York Knicks will not be rounding out their roster with any big-name veterans.
The New York Knicks have had a relatively successful offseason. They added the best free agent point guard on the open market in Jalen Brunson and were a Donovan Mitchell trade agreement away from being complete winners of the summer.
All in all, it was a strong step in the right direction for a franchise that desperately needed it. That said, New York still has a few open roster spots.
At least for now, it doesn’t seem (according to reports) as if the Knicks are ready to round out their roster with any of the big-name veterans that are still on the open market – specifically, Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge, or Carmelo Anthony. And perhaps that’s because they have other priorities still on their mind.
The New York Knicks could still be looking to make a trade
Despite missing out on Donovan Mitchell, there’s no guarantee that the Knicks are done making moves. In fact, there’s probably a healthy chance that New York could be looking to make another move before the start of the season.
A couple of players that could be candidates to be moved are Julius Randle and Evan Fournier, two players that have big contracts that simply haven’t lived up to their deals. Make no mistake, Randle and Fournier are penciled in to play a big role for the Knicks this season.
However, for one reason or another, the Knicks could look to still improve their roster. And that likely means parting ways with one or both of Randle and/or Fournier.
So it’s not a surprise that the Knicks aren’t willing to round out their roster with veterans just yet. Even though it would be a great story to see Melo in a Knicks roster once again, perhaps it’s something that is revisited later – and not now.
The Knicks are one of the most intriguing teams heading into the 2022-23 NBA season. And I’m not quite sure anyone will be able to predict how their season is going to unravel. They’re a team that could be feast or famine, truly.
