Dennis Schroder will get a fresh start with the Los Angeles Lakers after bouncing around the league.

For a while, it seemed odd that Dennis Schroder remained unsigned less than a couple of weeks before the start of training camp. However, after an impressive run during EuroBasket 2022, Schroder will sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Schroder gets his fresh start and will now have an opportunity to change the narrative of his career. If he hopes to get the long-term contract that he wants, he’ll have to prove it once again, this time with the Lakers – a team that he’s not unfamiliar with.

This will be Dennis Schroder’s second stint with the Los Angeles Lakers

Schroder played with the Lakers during the 2020-21 season in which he averaged 15 points, six assists, and four rebounds per game on 44 percent shooting from the field. Last season, after signing with the Boston Celtics he was traded to the Houston Rockets.

He struggled to find a new landing spot but it seems as if he believes the Lakers are the best opportunity. And it does make sense. From an objective point of view, the Lakers may be the best landing spot for Schroder.

With the expectation that Russell Westbrook will be traded, Schroder could take advantage of the Lakers’ need at the point guard position. Even with Patrick Beverley on the roster, Schroder has a separate skill set that would be beneficial for the Lakers that Beverley doesn’t offer.

Schroder is a scoring-first point guard that could be a key cog for the team off the bench – that’s where he excelled most for the Lakers (in a secondary scoring role).

Playing off LeBron James and Anthony Davis, Schroder would give the Lakers an element that they don’t have. You can make the argument that Westbrook offers a similar dynamic, but Schroder is just a better and more consistent shooter and off-ball player.

Schroder would be a sore spot in the lineup if he were playing with LeBron and AD, which is one of the bigger problems with Westbrook.

It will be interesting to see how Schroder ultimately fits in with this current roster, but the hope is that this deal will be beneficial for both Schroder and the Lakers. This is another low-level move that could end up paying big dividends for the Lakers down the line.
