Are the San Antonio Spurs all-in on Victor Wembanyama?

At least for now, it would appear that the San Antonio Spurs are all-in on Victor Wembanyama, who is projected to be the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. And why shouldn’t they be? He appears to be the real deal and the next generational talent to make the jump to the NBA.

Perhaps that has more to do with the Spurs trading Dejounte Murray than anything else. While Murray is extremely talented, he may not ever be a legit No. 1 in the league. There’s nothing wrong with that, but that’s exactly what the Spurs need at this point in their rebuild.

If San Antonio truly believes that Victor could be that for them, it would make sense for them to do whatever it takes to ensure that they have a good shot at landing him. At least for now, it will be between the Utah Jazz and Spurs. On paper, they appear to be the two worst teams in the league.

The Spurs will never admit it, but it seems like they’re leaning all the way in on the tank. It remains to be seen if it will work out. I suppose we must wait until next season.
