Ben Simmons is set to make his debut with the Brooklyn Nets when they open their preseason slate against the Philadelphia 76ers.
The last time Ben Simmons played in an NBA game, it was 2021 and he was a member of the Philadelphia 76ers. To say that a lot has changed from then to now would be an understatement. More than a year later, Simmons is set to make his Brooklyn Nets debut as they open their preseason slate against the, ironically enough, Philadelphia 76ers.
The Nets acquired Simmons from the Sixers at last year’s NBA Trade Deadline, but he was not healthy enough to play for the team. That means when he takes the court against the Sixers Monday night in a preseason tilt, it will be the first game action that he’ll participate in with his new team.
What to look for in Ben Simmons’ debut with the Brooklyn Nets?
Beyond just Nets fans, it’s safe to assume that there will be plenty of eyes watching to see how Ben Simmons looks in his debut with the Nets.
But it’s important to understand that there should be some pause when it comes to expectations for Simmons. First, we have to take into consideration that this is his first game action in more than a year.
And second, there will likely be some growing pains. Simmons is on a new team playing with two unique stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. I don’t think this is a transition that will be seamless. It may be, but I don’t think that’s what the expectation should be.
Simmons fitting in with the Nets could take time. And we could see some of that in their first preseason game. In fact, that’s probably why all three of their stars are expected to see game action in Brooklyn’s preseason opener.
My guess is that the coaching staff wants this trio to get as much game action as possible before the regular season begins.
Either way, Monday night’s preseason game between the Nets and Sixers should provide some added intrigue for fans alike. For all the discussion that has surrounded Simmons throughout the past year, we’re finally going to get some clarity on the entire situation.
The Nets and Simmons play basketball tonight. I’m not sure how many minutes he’s going to get but he’s finally going to be back on the basketball court, playing in a game. I’m excited.
