It finally appears that Father Time is beginning to bear down on LeBron James.

Over the past couple of seasons, there hasn’t been much that has gone right for the Los Angeles Lakers. They missed the playoffs last season and appear well on their way to doing the same this season – they are 2-6 through the first eight games of the season.

However, one aspect of the team that has always outshined each of its flaws has been LeBron James. He has been a pillar of consistent greatness ever since he stepped on an NBA floor. Championships or not, one thing that we became accustomed to was the excellent play of a player that will go down as an all-time great.

LeBron James is beginning to take a step back?

Although, at least to start the season, there’s a growing chance that we could finally be seeing the early stages of Father Time bearing down on LeBron.

LeBron has still been extremely productive for the Lakers to start the year but there are elements of his game that are beginning to wear down. And that’s what Father Time is probably going to look for LeBron.

For LeBron, because of how great he is, it’s not going to be a complete falloff. His fall from greatness is going to come in the crevices of his game. And that’s what we’re seeing at the start of this season.

So far this season, LeBron is averaging 24 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists on 43 percent shooting from the field and 21 percent shooting from 3-point range.

His overall production isn’t down all that much but it’s his efficiency numbers that are truly concerning. And maybe there is something more that is going on that we don’t know. Maybe he’s battling through injury or something, but with the information that we have, we can only conclude that this could be the beginning of Father Time inching closer and closer to LeBron.

LeBron’s supposed decline along with the team’s struggles is not a great perfect storm for this organization.

Maybe when the Lakers make a trade, everything begins to change for the team. Maybe it rejuvenates LeBron and he can get back on track again. But there has to be at least some concern that we’re beginning to see the start of the end of LeBron. And for a soon-to-be 38-year-old, that shouldn’t be a surprise. It’s a new reality for The King, LeBron James.
