NBA Trade Rumors: The Los Angeles Lakers may be open to trading Anthony Davis.

The Los Angeles Lakers are 2-7 and have gotten off to a nightmarish start to the year. There’s not much that is going right for the team and not much hope that they’ll be able to turn it around – short of a splash trade that may or may not be out there to make.

And while all the noise surrounding a potential Lakers trade is revolving around Russell Westbrook, perhaps there’s another player that the team should consider trading. If the Lakers want to build a contender again, they may not have many other options.

According to Bill Simmons, who mentioned this on his most recent podcast, the Lakers could get to the point where they’d be willing to trade Anthony Davis – perhaps as somewhat of a plan b if they can’t get the right deal done for Russell Westbrook.

Could the Los Angeles Lakers get to that point?

In fairness to this report, I don’t believe the Lakers are there yet. Could they get there, absolutely? And I think that’s the biggest question with this report. It’s not that the Lakers are ready to explore trades for Davis right now, it’s that they may have no other option if they want to build another championship team around LeBron.

The report suggests that this is somewhat of a plan b for the Lakers. If they can’t build a contender with a Westbrook trade, this certainly has to be on the table. Mostly because the potential return that the Lakers would be asking for would be huge.

And if that’s something that could jump-start this team in building out another championship-level team on the fly, it’s something that the Lakers will have to consider.

Davis is averaging 23 points and 11 rebounds per game on 53 percent shooting from the field so far this season for the struggling Lakers.

If nothing else, it’s certainly an interesting dynamic. Davis has been good to great when healthy. However, over the past couple of seasons in Los Angeles, that simply hasn’t been the case much.

It may be time to move on. And if the Lakers get to that point, it could make for an interesting potential bidding war for one of the best big men in the game.
