Exploring three big questions that are facing the inconsistent New York Knicks through the first few weeks of the regular season.

After a busy and overall successful offseason in improving the roster, the hope was that the New York Knicks would be able to take a substantial step forward this season. However, through the first nine games of the season, the verdict is still out for the new-look Knicks.

The Knicks are 4-5 and at this point in the season don’t have a win over a team that is above .500. They’ve struggled against the good teams and have beaten teams that they probably should beat. The Knicks have been inconsistent to start the year on both ends of the floor too.

The inconsistent New York Knicks need to find an identity

New York is average on offense (ranked 17th in the league), average on defense (ranked 17th in the league, and, as you would expect, has a negative net rating (-1.8). At least for now, they don’t have a clear identity – a probably that most Tom Thibodeau-led teams don’t have. At least not the successful ones.
