NBA Trade Rumors: NY Knicks hoarding picks to target next disgruntled star
NBA Trade Rumors: The New York Knicks continue to hoard first-round draft picks in an attempt to land the next disgruntled star.
The New York Knicks have gotten off to a shaky 5-6 start to the season. The team as a whole appears improved from last season but there’s no question this is a team that remains a ways away from being a championship contender.
And according to a recent report, the Knicks are still holding out hope that they can cash in on the future first-round picks that they have hoarded over the past few years to land the next star that either demand a trade or emerges on the trade block for one reason or another.
The Knicks have eight future first-round picks that they can trade in addition to a solid collection of young talent on the roster.
This report isn’t exactly surprising considering the Knicks were in full pursuit of Donovan Mitchell this past offseason. Even though they weren’t able to land Mitchell, it’s clear that the Knicks will have the necessary draft capital to be in the running for any star.
Who could the next disgruntled star be?
It’s nearly impossible to try and predict who the next disgruntled star may be but there are always surprise candidates in the NBA. We saw it recently with Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell and then Kevin Durant nearly demanded his way out of Brooklyn this past offseason too.
Durant is someone to keep an eye on especially if the Nets continue to spiral out of control. And a new recent report suggests that perhaps Shai Gilgeous-Alexander may be another name to watch.
Maybe Jimmy Butler grows tired in Miami and becomes available. Let’s think big; maybe LeBron James is open to finishing his career in New York?
No matter who the next disgruntled star will be, it seems to be a foregone conclusion that the Knicks will try to get involved one way or another.
With an up-and-down start to the year, it still feels that the Knicks are a move or two away from being a true contender in the Eastern Conference. Perhaps this is how they make the jump to contender status in the next 12 months.
